Creating Small Yet Stylish Gatherings
It would be great if this ‘inspiration blog post’ became redundant soon, but for now, we’re choosing quality over quantity when it comes to our gatherings for obvious reasons...
For at least the upcoming party season, cramped spaces overflowing with guests will be replaced with events such as exclusive cocktail parties, intimate dinner parties, or a fun, small scale house party.
Safety in Numbers - Communication & Planning is Key
Firstly, you would want to know the current Covid-19 rules for your state. To be precise, you need to know exactly how many guests you can have at your gathering. This number varies, so be aware, but remember for now, the success of your party won’t be measured by the head count.
Another advantage we have in Australia is we are heading into summer, so when and where you can, outdoor gatherings are ideal. Be sure to have hand sanitiser (fabulous botanical gin-based ones are our favourite) placed strategically where guests can access it easily. And finally, when you do invite your guests, be sure to clearly communicate the ground rules; especially how many people your invitation includes.
A Chic & Covid-Safe Cocktail Party
A small, but very stylish cocktail party is a brilliant option this party season. Cocktail parties can be intimate, with people more likely to mingle in small groups. Food can be served on trays, such as individual canapes, which has its advantages, as well as other single serve party foods.
Shake or stir some glamorous cocktails and avoid large shared drinks, or large plates and bowls of food. Less is more.
The spacing of your cocktail party can include a variety of small bar tables, either tall with stools or low with chairs, arranged in spaced, intimate groupings. If you can, utilize a deck or any outside area of your home, and again, arrange furniture in small, but chic settings.
An Intimate Dinner Party
As with any gathering this year, if you have an outdoors option – use it. A well-planned dinner party surrounded by your nearest and dearest is one of life’s greatest pleasures. In this instance, ideally, your table is situated in an al fresco setting or a spacious dining room with your limited, but fabulous VIP guestlist.
Focus on creating the perfect setting by styling and setting the table in a theme. One we love is using fresh foliage for a nature theme - so lush. Lighting and décor pieces can be used to create a celebratory ambience.
Small-Scale House Party
The advantage of a casual house party is you can employ a variety of spaces throughout your home. From the living room, dining room, kitchen, decks and garden, you can create pockets of welcoming spaces for your guests to chill and connect.
A decorated outdoor fire pit area, or a stylish poolside space would be ideal for guests to casually mingle. If you are limited to indoors and your space is small, you could always go with a themed dress up party, perhaps a romantic masked ball? Well maybe not a ball, but the mask idea could definitely work… ha!
We all genuinely need to connect with our friends and family this holiday season, so plan and style your gathering and style your space with some extra love. With some effort and imagination, you can ensure your small gathering is a memorable success.
