Five Ways to Perfect an Industrial Style Living Room

When one thinks of industrial style, it is more often than not associated with large, cold spaces, with soulless warehouse vibes. Yet industrial style has progressed so much as of late, enough to be translated easily into the comfort of your own home with ease and enjoyment! We have several tips that can change your perspective on this up and coming trend.

1. Features Forever

Industrial interiors often boast exposed brick walls, which are great and can be art pieces themselves with the right distressing - you can also hang your favourite artworks on top of the brick, creating layers of textures and design. Whether you go for a statement piece, cluster smaller photographs together, or accentuate a special sculpture against a bare wall, it is an ideal setting for this to steal the focus.

2. Metal Everything

Utilising the colder elements for furniture is ideal for industrial style, try metal large-scale bookshelves that can also be used as dividers in a more open-plan space. Wrought iron light features are a must, opt for softer shaded bulbs to help create some warmth for contrast, mix or match your coffee and side tables to your heart's desire, industrial doesn't have to be perfect, it is all about experimenting!

3. Tactful Use of Colour

Do not hesitate when it comes to adding a dash of colour in what is normally a more monotone pallet. Use different furnishing or accessories to add a little diversity, a mustard couch, navy curtains, or red velvet pillows. You can also introduce block colours via a statement wall, contrasting next to industrial style pieces or exposed brick is very on-trend.

4. Back to Nature

Oppose the colder surfaces of the industrial style with some fresh greenery. From tall fiddle-leaves to a more tropical palm will add that much-needed zest into your living room. Make sure they get tons of light and warmth from the sun so next to a factory size window is ideal, or the next best thing, or a quick fix would be to place some dried native flowers on the coffee table which will automatically soften the feel of the room.

5. Bring the Bar Home

The beauty of this style is that there are no rules. It can be whatever you want it to be, whether you open it up to involve your kitchen and dining room or insert a drinks trolley, or even your very own bar set-up. Create decorated shelving with liquor bottles, designer ornaments, and backlighting.
