8 OH-SO INSPIRING HOME DECOR IDEAS

Are you looking for inspiration for styling your space? If you are considering a refresh for your home and wondering where to start - we’ve got you. Here are eight oh-so inspiring décor ideas to really lift your style game.

1. Mirror, Mirror

Not just for checking hair and make-up, mirrors have become a key design element that really dials up the wow factor. Mirrors open up a space and bring more than a touch of glam. Traditionally, interior designers have recommended against positioned mirrors directly opposite windows, but these days they are often placed there to bring the outside in. Experiment with different positions and groupings and get creative! Displayed en masse or lining a wall, mirrors make an elegant, stylish statement.

2. Getting the hang of it

Artwork can completely transform a space. Finding a piece you love is only half the story though. Consider scale and position when hanging art. On walls, art generally looks best with the centre of the piece at eye level. Other approaches to try include leaning a selection of work along a wall, hung small and low as part of a vignette or as part of the ever-popular gallery wall.

3. Lighting 101

A well-lit room feels warm and welcoming and the best place to start is by layering the lighting. But what does this really mean? Ideally, most rooms need more than one source of light. Begin with a strategically placed overhead light to help shine a light for practical reasons. In a living area, this could be spot, up or down lighting paired with lamps to create cosy nooks.

4. Plant Life

Have artificial plants turned the corner from faux pas to fashionable? In short, yes. A high-quality artificial plant will always look good and will never overgrow the space you bought it for. Whether you’re after greenery, colour or a sculptural element, bringing the outdoors indoors has never been easier!

5. Bling Bling

With Pantone naming Ultra Violet as 2018’s colour of the year, there is no doubt that jewel tones are having a moment. Give your space a very ‘now’ update by introducing some of these luxe bling bling tones to your decor. Turquoise, ruby and emerald are also enjoying time in the interiors spotlight. When paired with velvet, it is an amazing way to introduce a rich, luxe feel that is oh-so-chic.

6. Earthy Tones

On the flip side, if a jewel-toned palette is too bold for you, earthy tones via natural and organic textures can be another way to update your home that is can be both calming, chic and perfect for fans of Hamptons or beach house style. Include organic materials like rattan, wicker, jute, linen and timber when furnishing your home.

7. Sofa Season

Winter is approaching and it’s time to snuggle up with a blanket and a glass of red. With peak sofa season nearly upon us in the southern hemisphere, it’s time to give your sofa a refresh. Try mixing shapes and sizes with cushions to create interest. Layering throws on the couch and ottoman also adds texture and interest.

8. Vary your Vignettes

Vignettes can easily be mixed up to reflect your mood, as well as a chance to display some of your favourite pieces. There is knack to bringing it all together just so. Vary height, depth and texture to tell a story about you and your home.

So whether your dream home is a vision of pared back Scandi style, an eclectic colourful contemporary look or channelling a sophisticated Manhattan apartment, decorating your home reflects the very core of who you are and how you live, and these are the factors that will, above all others, inform the décor choices you make.
