5 GOLDEN RULES OF BEDROOM STYLING YOU NEED TO KNOW
Getting this luxurious look and feel is easier than you think, in fact, the basics of a beautiful bedroom lay in just five golden rules.
1. THE BED
The style of your bed and bedhead will dictate the aesthetic and tone of the rest of your room so keep this in mind when selecting these key furniture items. Ultimately your bed should be comfortable and functional above all else so invest in a good quality mattress and even splurge on a cloud like a mattress topper. Select a good quality bed frame that will last you for years to come and a bedhead that reflects your personal style and flair. Ensure the bedhead you choose will remain relevant instead of getting caught up in the trend or style of the moment. Look for solid construction, clean upholstery in a durable fabric and seamless construction when considering a bedhead for your room. When choosing linen for your bed take into account the preexisting colours and textures in your bedroom. Bed linen offers a great way to add in colour and texture if your space is of an otherwise minimal aesthetic. However, if you already have bold hues or textured floor rugs, stick to luxurious linens in dreamy neutral tones and layer them up en masse. Perhaps throw in a patterned pillowcase, cushion or two or even an oversized knitted rug to amp up the chic factor. Your bed should be a place that you never want to leave, made for lazy mornings, breakfasts in bed and ample cuddle time with those you love. Your bed is the ultimate styling palette of your bedroom, so choose wisely!
2. ALL THINGS FLOOR
Rugs are a great way to add some texture to the bedroom and considering our love affair with wooden floorboards and polished concrete they are also much needed! Nobody wants to hop out of their warm cosy bed in the morning only to have their feet hit the ice-cold floor and a gorgeous floor rug offers the perfect solution to this problem. In the bedroom you have a few options when it comes to adding in rugs, you can go with an oversized rug and position it 1/4 of the way under the end of your bed and have it even on both bedsides. You can place two smaller rugs or sheepskins either side of the bed so that feet are ensured to find the perfect warm spot to rest every time they slip out from the covers. Or you have the option of layering two rugs off centre, again, placing them 1/4 of the way under the bed but overlapping them to create much visual interest, this is also a great way to use a more neutral rug paired back with a smaller rug of a bolder or more patterned nature. Because it a bedroom and shoes are not generally worn, the freedom is there to select rugs of a lighter more delicate nature.
Bedrooms are sanctuaries of calm and relaxation so it is vital to keep this in mind when selecting the colour palette of your room. Neutral schemes do tend to work best, with soft whites and washed out pastel shades being on trend currently. However bedrooms are also incredibly personal spaces and if you feel inclined to add in a patterned wallpaper or boldly hued feature wall, then that is entirely up to you, but do ensure to tie other decor pieces back to this colour palette to maximise cohesiveness in your interior. There are plenty of gorgeous wallpapers out there that also make for fabulous statement wall art if you're more daring in nature! If you do stick to as more neutral colour scheme, then use paintings or prints to introduce colour, be it one big feature piece or several smaller pieces that work together. A woven wall hanging can be a stunning addition to a bedroom and it is a great way to add softness and warm texture to otherwise natural walls. This is also trending right now, extra bonus points if you make your own!
4. BEDSIDE LOVE
Not only are bedside tables stylistically brilliant, they are also incredibly functional pieces of furniture to add to your bedroom. Whether you have two that match, built in ones or just the one the option is entirely yours! It is best to keep bedsides simple and not to over clutter them, a rule of three is usually good practice with a light, an accessory and some greenery. Think trinket dish for your jewels, candle or personal treasure paired back with a statement reading lamp and a delicate indoor plant or vase of florals. If you are someone that likes to keep a stack of books by your bedside then consider choosing a two-tiered bedside or one that has drawers or doors on it to hide your collection. Ensure the style of your bedsides is in line with your bed and if you're choosing a colour or metal option work back with the existing tones in your room when selecting. (... 5. GET GREEN
Our love affair for indoor plants is showing no sign of abating and they are slowly spreading to every room of the home, the bedroom being no exception! Not only are plants brilliant to look at but they also offer many health benefits and who wouldn't want all that green goodness in their bedroom! Ensure you select plants that will suit the lighting availability in your room and perhaps take them outside every now and then for a breath of fresh air and sunshine. You can add plants to your bedroom in a myriad of different ways from pots on window sills, hanging planters, pot plant stands, by resting them on your bedside or furnishings in your room, or simply with the addition of a focal plant and pot in a corner of your room, the possibilities are endless and results are always exquisite.
